Blessed Trinity Church of Vilnius Basillian Monastery Buildings Ensemble

Nearby the Gate of Dawn and away from the usual tourist routes, there is a complex of the Basilian Monastery, also known as the Basilian Wall. The legend says that the first wooden chapel on the Blessed Trinity Mountain was built in the mid-14th century in the location of murdering the first Lithuanian Christian martyrs Antanas, Jonas and Eustachijus. The stone Blessed Trinity Church with a bell tower was built in 1514-1516 by Konstantinas Ostrogiškis, the great Lithuanian hetman, in order to thank the Lord for his victory over Moscow in the Battle of Orsha. It is the only Unitarian church in Lithuania. St Juozapatas Kuncevičius, born in Volynė in 1617, established St Basil’s Grand Order that is the only one in Lithuania. For ages and during the occupations, the church was passing from hand to hand until it was returned to Unity in 1991. Service is held daily in the old Unitarian religious ceremony language which is Ukrainian.
