Holy Trinity Church of Sudervė Holy Trinity Church Buildings Complex

The first church in Sudervė was built in 1782 by Ignotas Masalskis, Vilnius Bishop, and Teodora Sapiegienė, the representative of the famous Sapiegos family. The present church, which is quite rare in Lithuania due to its round form, was built by the owner of Sudervė manor Valentinas Volčackis. Construction lasted from 1803 to 1822. According to some sources, the architect of the church was the famous Laurynas Stuoka Gucevičius, while the others state that the architect was Laurynas Bartkevičius (Bortkevičius), a Dominican, writer and publisher of religious writings. The church itself is a domed rotunda with classicist forms and deep hollows at the side altars, and the portico of 6 Doric columns. There are niches behind the columns where 6 apostolic sculptures stand. Also, valuable 19th-century frescoes decorate the church. The church has excellent acoustics. In the churchyard, there is a classicist stone bell tower. Church services are held in the Lithuanian and Polish languages.
