Kučkuriškės Mound

A mound, which is now called Kučkuriškės or Naujoji Vilnia Mound, was discovered in the territory of Ancučiai Landscape Reserve, just next to Naujoji Vilnia. It is one of the recently discovered Vilnius mounds which was included in the Register of Cultural Property only in 2009. Earlier it was just the Barsukynė Mount. The highest hill (287 m) is located in the forest of the same name. The mound is surrounded by the Vilnia river on the south and by ravines and forests on other sides. The mound dates back to the 1st millennium BC - the 1st millennium AC. The mound has steep 30-60 m high slopes overgrown with deciduous and coniferous trees. At the top, there is a 10 m wide and 55-60 m long irregularly shaped terrace.
